What we look at when we set the threshold

Every U.S. domestic route has a typical "anchor" fare — the price 60 % of the inventory sells at. A meaningful drop is anything 12 % or more below that anchor. We surface the historical anchor on the alert list once you've been watching a route for 14 days, so you can refine the threshold.

Three patterns we see most often

• The 21-day cliff. Most domestic routes get cheaper between day 60 and day 21 before departure, then climb steadily. Setting a watch 30+ days out is the highest-yield window.
• Tuesday afternoon ULCC drops. Spirit and Frontier rebalance inventory mid-week. If your route is on either carrier, expect 8–14 % drops between Tuesday 14:00 and Wednesday 09:00 Central.
• Connection arbitrage. A connection through ATL, DFW, or DEN is often $40–$120 cheaper than the nonstop. We surface both — you decide if the layover is worth it.
